We hope this letter finds you and your loved ones safe and in good health. Your Tribal school continues to remember our students, families and community members while offering our semaa and saying our prayers. The Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe remains committed to providing one of the fundamental rights of our sovereignty: education. We understand that our ancestors sacraficed many needs and experienced much hardship for us to have an education. Their efforts will not be abandoned because of COVID-19. While the educational setting may look different from before, together, we will continue our tradition of resiliency.
The Tribal Education Department has given much thought and consideration to the SCA Remote Learning Plan. We worked to ensure our students have the opportunity to engage with their classmates and academic teachers in supportive and creative ways. We devised this plan to ensure our students continue to receive meaningful Anishinaabe Culture and Language lessons. Further, our students will be supported in their physical, social emotional and lifeskill development.

Family Expectations
Our priority is your family’s safety and wellbeing. We hope that you are able to engage in remote learning activities to the maximum extent possible. We also understand that every home and situation is different. In order to keep our commitment to being a trauma-informed school, we understand that there may be times when student engagement is limited. This plan should serve as a guide to establish a healthy routine for your child. This plan should not add stress to an already overwhelming situation. You are encouraged to communicate with your child’s teacher if you have unique circumstances that require consideration.
Meal Service
The Saginaw Chippewa Academy is a designated Meet Up and Eat Up site. We serve hot lunch on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. to students 18 years old and under. With each hot lunch opportunity, cold breakfast and lunch items will be included for the next day, including the weekend that require minimal prep at home. Each student has the potential to receive free lunches and breakfasts, 7 days a week.
